Announcement of the death of Elaine Speakman, Ketso Communications Manager 2009 – 2018

It is with the deepest of sadness that we have to announce that Elaine Speakman, who was with Ketso from its formation in 2009 until her retirement in 2018, passed away on 10/04/2019. She was joking and laughing with staff and friends before and after a surgical operation, and we are sure that is how she would want to be remembered, as someone who could find humour in anything and who was always one to make others feel at ease.

Indeed, you can see how she was tackling this latest bout of cancer with her characteristic humour in the last blog she wrote.

We are devastated, and grateful for all that she did for us as a company. Many of our customers will remember her humour and kindness.

Joanne’s first meeting with Elaine showed her characteristic verve and practicality. Elaine came to the presentation of results from Joanne’s PhD with her good friend, Ann Kolodziejski. The caterer had arrived and left the food in rather a mess, whilst Joanne was busy pinning up Ketsos to the wall for the display. Elaine went to work, sorted all of the food out and started serving people straight away. She was always one to lend a hand to someone in need, ready to enjoy herself with friends and family, and forever practical.

Helen says: Although I had known Elaine for some years, it was when I took over her role with Ketso that I got to know her better as a friend. She continued to provide professional support and advice, despite dealing with her cancer diagnosis and treatment, and we also enjoyed many chats and laughs over the course of the last 12 months. She certainly lived up to her nickname of Star!

One of Elaine’s abiding interests was for poetry, and her words will live on – you may enjoy February Shoot, published here. Certainly Elaine had more sense!
